The star has given the entirety of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which works to save the Britain's grassroots live music spots.

He was awarded the prize on mid-October as his latest record the album was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

He has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role small stages had in his early career.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these venues have permanently closed – about 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which goes to help local stages.

He also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation helped locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues stemming from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in modernizing infrastructure and gear that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from concerts in big venues backs the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.

The musician is among several artists to donate his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

When Pulp won the prize in the mid-90s for their album the album, vocalist the singer stated that the band would donate their cash to the non-profit War Child.

That year, artist the artist shared her bounty among multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they required better apparatus," she told outlets.

Two years ago, the band contributed their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their act, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners M People donated their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked vocalist Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust revealed it had protected several small stages in the South East, by bringing them into local control.

The Joiners in that area and The Croft in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the venues.
